Composting at Home

Composting at home can reduce household waste by up to 30%, decreasing the waste going to landfill, potentially reducing garbage disposal costs, and creating soil for your lawn and garden. If you want to get a jump on the growing season, start learning about composting at home.

Residents can purchase backyard compost bins from the City at the Richmond Recycling Depot for a reduced price of $25.00 plus tax.

The bins measure 32" high, 28" wide and 28" deep and are well suited for residential backyard composting of grass, leaves, vegetable trimmings, fruit trimmings and other miscellaneous organic garden trimmings. No space? Those without space for composting at home can still recycle their food scraps, food soiled paper, and yard trimmings through Green Cart recycling.
